Myeloperoxidase deficiency manifesting as pustular candidal dermatitis.
Myeloperoxidase deficiency is the most common neutrophilic lysosomal enzyme deficiency. Case studies indicate that individuals with myeloperoxidase deficiency are not susceptible to serious infection in the absence of coexisting conditions such as diabetes mellitus. We present a case of myeloperoxidase deficiency manifesting as disseminated pustular candidal dermatitis in a nondiabetic male. Ce...
متن کاملOrf: contagious pustular dermatitis.
Orf is a common viral infection in sheep. It spreads to humans by direct contact. It is self-limiting, treatment having no beneficial effect. Misdiagnosis by those unfamiliar with its characteristic features is common, and may result in unnecessary treatment with antibiotics or surgery. We present a series of five cases of Orf in children of farmers in the west of Ireland, seen over a 10 year p...
متن کاملPustular allergic contact dermatitis caused by fragrances.
Pustular allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is rare, with reactions to the topical antibacterial nitrofurazone (1), isoconazole nitrate (2), topical minoxidil 2% (3), 1% fluorouracil (4), black rubber (5) and tricholoroethylene (6) having been reported. The clinical appearance of pustular ACD has been reported to comprise multiple small pustules, only 0.5–1mm in size, on a background of erythema...
متن کاملPustular dermatitis caused by Dermatophilus congolensis.
We describe a case of pustular dermatitis in a 15-year-old girl who had just returned from horseback riding camp. Based on gram staining, colony characteristics, biochemical reactions, and whole-cell fatty acid analysis, the causative agent was identified as Dermatophilus congolensis. The literature contains few reports of human infection with this organism.
متن کاملHereditary myeloperoxidase deficiency.
Subjects with neutrophil myeloperoxidase (MPO) deficiency have been rarely reported. In part this may be due to the lack of a simple screening technique that would detect them. With the routine use of a cytochemical leukocyte differential counter that employs MPO stains, over a 40-mo a period 8 unrelated probands with partial MPO-deficiency and one with complete deficiency were identified. Fami...
